Since 1996 when Leon Medical Centers was established, the León family has served the healthcare needs of the Medicare population, providing them with superb medical care at its state-of-the-art facilities and offering the “Personal Attention at All Times” that the company has built a reputation for.
Benjamín León, Jr., an industry leader with more than 43 years experience, founded Leon Medical Centers to offer healthcare services that are sensitive to the cultural nuances of the Hispanic Medicare population in Miami-Dade County. Leon Medical Centers became a leading health services provider and has helped improve the lives of seniors since its inception.
Under Mr. León Jr.’s leadership, LMC has grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious healthcare institutions in the state and has served as model for healthcare institutions locally, as well as nationally.
Benjamín León Jr. envisioned providing Leon Medical Centers’ patients with an even higher quality of healthcare that would help simplify the care each patient receives in order to better serve its Medicare patients.
To that end, in 2005 Leon Medical Centers Health Plans, a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) with a Medicare Advantage contract, was established to bring Leon Medical Centers patients consolidated care and integrated services. Designed based on the unique healthcare needs of Hispanic Medicare patients, Leon Medical Centers Health Plans has an exclusive relationship with Leon Medical Centers, which today has five locations throughout Miami-Dade County.
In August 2007 Leon Medical Centers Health Plans entered into a partnership with publicly traded HealthSpring, Inc., one of the largest managed care organizations in the United States whose primary focus is the Medicare Advantage market. HealthSpring currently owns and operates Medicare Advantage and stand-alone Medicare prescription drug plans in Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, Illinois, and Mississippi. The alliance allows LMC Health Plans to expand its reach into other areas in order to fulfill its mission of providing the highest level of health care to members in an environment of respect, dignity and compassion.
Under its existing management, LMC Health Plans serves the elderly and disabled population by providing comprehensive health plans that are tailored to their unique needs. Today it maintains its exclusive relationship with Leon Medical Centers, which is a family owned and operated business managed by the León family.
With more than 500 dedicated healthcare professionals and more than 35,000 members, Leon Medical Centers and Leon Medical Centers Health Plans are redefining the status quo in the healthcare industry. Together, the institutions offer a tightly integrated model of primary and specialty care services, a dedication to excellence and an unequaled patient-centric approach to care that serves the ever-changing needs of its members.
